| JILL WILLIAMS has had a varied and impressive career.
As the first woman to write book, music and lyrics for
a Broadway musical (Rainbow Jones 1974), she
approaches each creative undertaking with equal enthusiasm.
Whether writing songs, interviewing celebrities or capturing
a yawning lion on film, she has her own unique way of
seeing things. Williams has three nonfiction books to
her credit: Health Secrets of the Stars (Dell
Purse Book 1982), How To Photograph Pets And Animals
(HPBooks 1983), Quick Notes And Fast Quotes For Every
Occasion (Self-Counsel Press 1991). For the last
half-decade, she has devoted herself to crafting formal
poetry. The Nature Sonnets (Gival Press 2001)
is her first published collection. Her second, A Weakness
For Men (Woodley & Watts, Inc. 2003). |

| Although an avid formalist, she is equally adamant about
her words being emotionally accessible. Says Williams,
“I want to touch hearts. If people appreciate the
structure I use? That’s okay too. But it’s
feelings I want to share, not forms.’ Her poetry
has appeared in such diverse publications as: Rural
Heritage, St. Anthony Messenger, Writer’s
Journal, The Comstock Review, Heliotrope
and Capper’s Magazine. She has taught
creative writing (Vancouver Community College 1990-94),
been a CBC radio commentator (‘Leisure Trends’
1996-98), a recording artist (Jill Williams RCA
Victor 1971), the first female General Professional Manager
for Beechwood-Capitol Music (1971-73) and the creator
of several poetry-reading series (Poets Night Out - Sedona,
Arizona; North Shore Poetry Night – North Vancouver,
BC). |
